Zorya

Zorya has been belly dancing for nine years, and has performed extensively in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She has also been a featured solo performer at two Superclub resorts in Jamaica twice a year for the last few years.

She is a founding member of Embers & Emeralds, the award-winning, Easton, Pa.-based professional American belly dance troupe. A tall and vivacious dancer, Zorya is known for her beautiful and elegant dances featuring swirling silk veils and mysterious gossamer wings. Zorya is also known for her unusual taste in music. In additional to dancing to traditional Middle Eastern music, she's also performed to the likes of Led Zeppelin and Joan Jett.

An accomplished flutist, Zorya often carries the melody during Embers & Emeralds' live music finales, which can feature the sparkling voice of a traditional modern silver flute, as well as the smokey voice of an array of exotic bamboo flutes. She also is also learning the Turkish spoons, and enjoys performing the Gypsy Tambourine Dance with Lisanna.

Zorya studied with Michelle DeVine of Little York, NJ, and danced with Michelle's troupe Mahalat for a number of years before helping to launch Embers & Emeralds in 2005. She's also studied with Khaleela of Tatamy, Pa., and Tahya of Whitehall, Pa., and performed with Troupe Bannat Tahya.

Zorya was first drawn to belly dancing by her fascination with Middle Eastern music and its exotic rhythm and haunting melodies. Zorya loves dancing with Embers & Emeralds, and also enjoys solo performances. She is available to teach in the Easton, Pa. area, and has been known to give impromptu lessons on the beach of Caribbean resorts.
