Durriken
Durriken is new to the belly dance scene, but no stranger to drums! He has been an avid percussionist since an early age and has recently developed a love for Middle Eastern rhythms and drums, including the dumbek.
In his first year of Middle Eastern drumming, Durriken has enjoyed performing on the stages of the Wrightstown Village Renaissance Faire, A Celebration of Samhain in Allentown, and other Lehigh Valley belly dance events.
Embers & Emeralds has been delighted to dance to Durriken’s wonderful drumming!
It was his wife, the lovely Surayyah’s dancing, that inspired Durriken to study and play Middle Eastern music.
“I was captivated by the connection of the dance to the earthy rhythms. In drumming these rhythms, I instantly felt personally and emotionally tied to them,” Durriken said. “They now feel a part of me and a form of personal expression that can be tied to the emotion and feelings expressed by the wonderful dancers that enjoy the art of belly dance."
